Sorry but I've had to add a step to leaving comments here and on all my blogs. I'm hoping it stops the spam comments.

Well we went to the vet yesterday and they refilled the Lasix and the steroid and we set up an appt for sept 1st. We also got her some moist food (tender vittles) and more treats for her pills.

Pretty much she's doing okay but she's listless. She sleeps alot. I know that's probably cuz she's not eating as much as she should. She's lost so much weight. I miss my chubby kitty. We've tried canned soft food (the mushy kind not the slices) ...

I gotta go gotta play darts 2nite. I'll update later *hugs*

Well, I've decided to make a Kikyo blog. This way I can keep updated on how she's doing and not bore people with all my OT posts and actually post life stuff on my real blog lol. I'll get some pics up here eventually too. I have a ton. I love taking pictures of her she's so pretty.

Let's see....some background....

We got her 2 years ago tomorrow. The day before we officially became her home, we were walking home from the Black Sheep (when we lived on 20 chestnut) and she came out from the side of the building near the dumpster. She was so tiny. So we went upstairs and I got a can of Salmon and opened it and took it over to the park and dumped it out on the sidewalk so she could eat it. Didn't want to do it in front of the building cuz there had just been posted something about not feeding strays cuz some people were scared of the cats. We wanted to take her in then and there but thought she might be someone's so we went in and left her.

The next night (again walking home from the Black Sheep) we saw her again and she came right up to us and rubbed on us. So we gave her some love and then asked her if she wanted to come with us. We never picked her up. She followed us right into the building (we weren't even bribing her with food) and right into the elevator and right into our apt. So we ran across the street to get litter and food and she became ours. We assumed she was someone's kitty cuz she was in beautiful shape. No fleas or ticks or anything wrong with her physically that we could see. She even knew how to use the litter box (altho my friend just told me the other day that they pretty much know by instinct how to use it) She was pretty much Kevin's cat, but I stayed up with her @ night to comfort her in a new place and all. We kept an eye out for lost kitty signs but saw none. Were still looking for them months later just in case. I mean we loved her but if she was some child's pet then we had to give her back.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. She has been really really loving with us for a week then she got real standoffish and wasn't with us as much. In the new house she's almost always with one or the other of us but at this time she would disappear for hours. Right before this i noticed her breathing was weird. We kinda brushed it off for a few. Thought maybe it was cuz she had a hairball or maybe was constipated (i know that sounds silly) Kevin had a feeling tho, so a couple weeks ago Thursday he had us go to the vet down the road and make an appt. Luckily they had one the next day. This is where it got sad.

The next morning was so hard to wake up (I didn't get to sleep until around 5am and the appt was @ 9:30am), so Kevin went without me. Next thing i know he's home 2 and 1/2 hours later waking me up and crying. He proceeded to tell me that she almost died. Apparently what was happening is that she knew her life was coming to a close so she wanted to show us how much she loved us before she chose a place to die. And if we hadn't taken her to the vet that morning she would have died by time we woke up. She had fluid in her chest and that was what was making it hard for her to breathe. Kevin said she was perfect when he was with her taking her temp and weighing her and stuff, but when they took her away from him she freaked out and they actually had to give her oxygen cuz she stopped breathing while they were taking xrays. They found fluid in her chest and gave Kevin the option to
A. do nothing
B. put her to sleep
C. have the fluid removed and sent out for testing
D. surgery ($1500) to find out for sure what caused the fluid and fix it.
So he chose option C. cuz he said he couldn't not come home with her (double negative I know) so they took out the fluid in a syringe after they shaved her side (Kevin said they took out alot) and they gave us Amoxil & Lasix (to reduce the fluid).

They called us about an hour later to tell us they did some prelim testing on her and found her to be positive for feline Leukemmia. So they recommended putting her on a steroid (which we did). When she first got home she was still pretty groggy and probably still thought she was dying, but she was just about back to her old self the next day.

Today she seems okay. I gave her the amoxil (they told us she could stop taking it friday but we're giving it to her until she runs out of it) and then the pills in her treats like usual. I had to put the steroid in 2 treats lol the first one she didn't eat the pill so i stuck it in another treat and BOOM she ate it. I think she knows it's for her own good. She'll even eat the pill if it comes out of the treat (usually...not today lol) The other day she actually came upstairs and woke us up when it was almost time for her meds. She's so cute! Then, she started walking down the stairs and meowing at me, stopping after a couple of steps and turning around to make sure I was following her.

She worries me tho cuz she's lost alot of weight. She's not eating alot. We have both wet and dry cat food out for her and some half and half i put out last night and aside from her licking all the "juice" from the wet food, it's all pretty much untouched. Maybe a few mouthfuls of the dry. Kevin has to go to the vets today to get more pills so he's gonna talk to the vet. Wish us luck!
